Our journey with Samoyeds began more than 20 years ago, when we welcomed our first boy, North, into our lives. At that time, we lived in a different country with a very different breeding culture and approach to pedigree dogs.
Dedicated individuals and families largely carried out breeding, sharing their lives with only one or two dogs, while breed clubs played a central role in maintaining standards and guiding responsible breeding practices. Before a dog was considered for breeding, it was normally expected to be presented and evaluated at dog shows, demonstrating its quality, structure, movement and temperament as a representative of the breed.
In those days, owning a registered puppy carried significant meaning. A pedigree was not simply proof of origin, but it represented generations of thoughtful selection and dogs that had been carefully assessed before contributing to the future of the breed.
After moving to the United Kingdom, we encountered a much broader range of breeding practices. This experience encouraged us to define our own priorities clearly: preserving correct breed type, supporting sound health and stable temperament, and making responsible, carefully considered breeding decisions.
Over the years, we have also become increasingly conscious of the importance of maintaining genetic diversity and avoiding the unnecessary concentration of closely related bloodlines. This strengthened our determination to develop a breeding programme focused on producing Samoyeds that reflect the breed standard in appearance, temperament and movement, while placing health and quality of life at the centre of every decision.
With this goal in mind, we have carefully introduced selected overseas bloodlines into our programme, importing notable representatives of the breed and working with breeders who share our values. This wider genetic foundation helps us protect the qualities that first made us fall in love with the Samoyed.
Today, Artek Design brings together Murik Samoyeds and our partner kennels through a shared commitment to responsible breeding. Our aim is not simply to produce beautiful dogs, but to raise well-balanced Samoyeds with the health, character and structure needed to become cherished companions and, where appropriate, contribute positively to the future of the breed.
The values that began with North more than two decades ago continue to guide every decision we make today.
